Dear Parents: How to React When Your Teen Admits to Struggling with Porn

March 7, 2019

A few months ago, I received an e-mail from a 15 year old who had been watching porn since she was 12. She was desperate to tell someone and was extremely reluctant to tell her parents.

Admitting to your parents that you are engaged in something sinful can be terrifying if you fear a harsh reaction. Due to this, I wanted to make a video for parents to hopefully help them see how to react in a loving way.

Please be aware that I am not giving “parenting advice”. I have a lot of experience with what keeps the lines of communication open with teenagers and am just trying to help.

Resources Regarding Porn

I try to share resources as much as possible on this blog, so here are a few regarding this subject that may help.

  • Porn: A Christian Girl Struggle too
  • Overcoming Secret Sins
  • How to Tell Your Parents You Struggle with Porn
  • Overcoming a Porn Habit: Teenage Girl Edition
  • Fight the New Drug: this is not a religiously affiliated site. It has a plethora of information on how porn affects the brain, heart, and world.

In Closing

I hope you found this post helpful. Being able to help your teen through tough issues is no easy task and I pray for their freedom and healing.

In Christ,

-Sarah
