How to get out of a Negative Dating Relationship

February 19, 2019

How to get out of a negative dating relationship| Transformed4More.com| Ministry for Teenage Girls

Are you in the midst of a negative dating relationship? Do you feel smothered? Do you feel like you can’t accomplish your future goals/dreams because of your romantic relationship?

Dating is a topic we talk about a length on this site. I even wrote a book on the topic. I discuss it frequently because, in my experience, it is one of the major facets of teen life that can send it in a downward spiral quickly.

In today’s post, I want to discuss with you how to end a negative dating relationship. Please read the following two options so you will know what route to take 🙂 and then check out the resources at the bottom of the post!

Breaking up with a Normal Person

If you are breaking up with a normal, non-abusive person, then the vlog below that Susan and I made will walk you through the process. It discusses what to say and the normal reactions the person may give.

This vlog was actually part of a larger “break-up” series that we did. You can click on the original vlog post here to access all of the posts.

Breaking Up with an Abuser

If you are in an abusive relationship, the rules are different. If you think you may be in one, but are not sure, check out the post: Am I in an Abusive Dating Relationship?

If you would rather READ about how to break up with an abuser, check out this post: How to Break Up with and Abuser

If you want to watch, view the vlog below:

Resources

We have a “Break Up Guide” in our free resource library that will walk you through the process and you can even write down what you want to say when breaking up with a normal person.

  • Click here or the graphic below to access the “Break Up Guide”. When the new tab opens, just keep scrolling and you will find it.

To learn more about abusive relationships, you can check out any of the posts below:

If you like books, the Chad Eastham’s The Truth about Breaking Up, Making Up, and Moving on, is a good one. It goes into detail about break ups and relationships. All of his books are solid and entertaining to read. I highly recommend them. In Closing

This doesn’t particularly deal with breaking up, but I wrote a book about setting the foundation for healthy dating relationships called So, You Think You’re Ready to Date?” You can learn more here or by clicking the graphic below:

I hope you found this post helpful.

I am serious about people having positive relationships. Negative ones rob us of the abundant life God intends for us to have.

As a final note, This post is part of our “Break the Chains” series. It is a series that helps teenagers find freedom from sin or life choices that may be holding them down from the abundant life God has called them to. See all the posts in the series, click here.

Thank you for reading and please share with anyone you think may need it.

Until next time!

-Sarah
