I know that this website centers around Christian blogs and resources, but I wanted to change it up today and share with you some of the most influential books that aren’t specifically religious that Susan and I want to recommend to you. So instead of giving you a long introduction, let’s just get to it!

Four influential books

First up is Warriors Don’t Cry: A Searing Memoir of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock’s Central High. I read this book in middle school and it had a deep effect on me. So deep, I actually made a trip to see the school as an adult.

The author is one of the “Little Rock Nine” who integrated Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas. The harrowing ordeals Melba had to endure brought me to tears and stung my heart. It was the first autobiographical book about racism I had ever read and I would recommend it to anyone to read ages 12 and up. You can click the title above or the graphic below to learn more.

Do you know much about Mormonism? Maybe you’ve seen their commercials and advertising on YouTube or even had missionaries come to your door. Susan and I had only come into contact with one Mormon family our entire lives, so needless to say, we didn’t know much.

Now, through missionaries reaching out to us on social media and then in real life, we took a dive into their beliefs, and we were genuinely shocked by how different Mormonism, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is from Christianity. After all we have learned, we wanted to make a post of the most helpful resources we found to help us understand the Mormon religion and how to evangelize them more effectively. It will be split up into videos, books, and then a podcast. Scroll on!

At least once a year, I try to compile a list of books that have come out over the past year, and a few of my favorites, for teenagers to read. Since teens usually have some time in the summer (and I know they allllllllllllll want to spend it reading…haha) I have compiled the list for 2019!
